Following the outbreak of conflict in Sudan in April 2023, the British Council adapted its delivery model to ensure the continuity of its work and ongoing support to people and partners. We restructured our operating model to enable programmes to continue through remote delivery and regional hubs.
Most of our team continues to work remotely, ensuring that our programmes in youth skills development, education and cultural heritage protection have continued without interruption. These programmes remain a priority and reflect our long-standing commitment to supporting Sudanese communities during this challenging period.
Due to the security situation and operational constraints, direct English teaching and examinations delivery in Sudan remain suspended, as it is currently not possible to deliver these services in line with British Council quality, safety and safeguarding standards.
Building on 76 years of working in Sudan, the British Council continues to support education systems, having trained over 2,000 teachers across 12 states last year, delivered technical and non-formal skills training to young people, and played a critical role in preserving Sudan’s unique cultural heritage.
