Born in Khartoum, Sudan, Islam is an aspiring Jazz bassist, Program Manager at Impact Hub Khartoum and presenter of a radio show that profiles jazz musicians and jazz music from all over the world. Islam is also a member of the i4Policy Task force. i4Policy is an organization that works in democratizing policy-making with specific emphasis on Entrepreneurship.
Islam grew up between Sudan, Ethiopia, China and DR Congo, and is currently based in Kigali, Rwanda. This diverse upbringing gave her access to different cultures and people that would subsequently shape her creative and professional career.
As a musician, Islam aspires to shed light on the rich and diverse musical heritage of Sudan through musical compositions that highlight both the Jazz and traditional Sudanese sound. She believes that a very unique sound can be produced with such fusion.
Islam is passionate about music education and regularly conducts beginners jazz music theory sessions and she hopes to see more women playing musical instruments that may seem unconventional within the Sudanese society.
