The Ministry of Higher Education and the British Council celebrated the launch of the first book of "English as a University Requirement" at the Ministry of Higher Education. The book, which was conceived by the British Council and jointly written by British consultants and Sudanese university academics, will soon be piloted in four Sudanese universities.
Historically, the expression "English as a University Requirement (EUR)" in Sudan has referred to a course which was mandatory in the first and second years of university education and aims to improve the students’ level of English language. The British Council and the Ministry of Higher Education have agreed to further collaborate on the development of EUR and another five books over the next two years. It is estimated that more than 300,000 university students will benefit from these books which will be made available at no cost in all public and private universities in Sudan.
