The British Council is holding a global art competition for young learners. The competition takes places annually across all British Council offices that run the Young Learner programme. This year’s theme is ‘Space’. Entrants are divided in three age groups to ensure a fair competition, which are: 8 years and under, 9 – 11 and 12 – 15 year olds. This time around we are doing it a bit differently to ensure some fantastic work from Sudan, so lessons were planned to discuss ‘Space’ in the classroom to give students some ideas. We also held open workshops for learners supported with art materials to create their paintings, led by the well-known local artist Rawan Elbadawi.
A British Council panel will choose the winning entry from each group and the winners’ work will be sent to London for the final competition with the rest of the global entries.
Besides painting for the actual competition the kids enjoyed this colourful experience, and it was a nice opportunity for them to interact with their age group outside the classroom.
The parents also endorsed the idea and supported it immensely. The winning works from the global competition will be displayed in our 2020 calendar and other British Council promotional materials.
