The choices you make about where to study will have a big impact on the rest of your life. When you take IELTS and apply to study abroad in a country like the UK, you can make connections and find opportunities to enable your future career growth all over the world. Consider the list of options below to help you transition from a student to a professional in the UK.

Investigate internships

While you are a student in the UK, apply for internships that are available in your field. An internship is a great way to get much-needed work experience before you graduate and often companies will use your internship period to assess whether you are the right fit for a permanent role. If your internship goes well, you could have an immediate foot in the door to your chosen industry and avoid job hunting without experience.

Taking IELTS not only makes it possible for you to apply to study in the UK, the world’s most trusted English test is also the ultimate confidence booster! Preparing for IELTS will help you improve your skills in English Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking.

Work placements while you study

Depending on the course you choose, you may be offered a work placement opportunity as part of your master’s degree. According to Study UK, you can expect to be placed with a company for a period of six to twelve months, before completing your final year of study.

Reach out to your university about work placement opportunities while you study and read more about the rules and regulations involved here. IELTS is recognised by the top universities in the UK, including those that offer work placements to help you get a head start in your career.

Take the Graduate route

The UK offers a Graduate route visa which allows students to remain in the country and find work after graduation. If you have completed an undergraduate or master’s degree, you can stay in the UK for up to two years. If you graduate with a PhD, your Graduate route visa is valid for three years.

The Graduate route allows newly qualified international professionals to work, or look for work, at any skill level including internships and even freelance roles. There is no minimum salary requirement and you do not need to be tied to a specific job or employer. This level of flexibility enables graduates to find several opportunities to gain experience in the UK and can lead to the Skilled worker visa route.
